Thank you all for the wonderful class gift of skin care products, Peet's Coffee, and cash (I'm going shopping!!) Thank you also for all of the individual holiday gifts and cards. I am working on thank you notes, so they will come home soon. I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful group of kids and such supportive and generous parents! I wish Peace and Joy to all of you in the New Year!
- We passed out Reading Journals today. Students are welcome to decorate them if they'd like.
- Read Sign of the Beaver, Chapter 2-3 closely and carefully. Please use the "signpost" pages of your journal to record important passages that will deepen your understanding of the novel. Be prepared to share your observations during our Grand Conversation tomorrow.
- The first drafts of your "Emotion" narratives are due on Wednesday. This means you should have a complete narrative, which uses all of the writing techniques you learned in our Writing Workshop lessons. (Remember to "zoom in" and tell your story step by step. Add internal thoughts, dialogue, and figurative language.)
- Your first Scholars Speak essay is due on Monday. The directions were sent home today. The first topic is to freeze a moment in time and tell it in 2-3 paragraphs. Then you will present your "moment" orally next week.
Wordly Wise 8 Spelling Test:
Oops! We forgot to take our spelling test before the break. Practice your spelling tonight, because we are taking it tomorrow.
If you did not turn in your Trade Sign, it is due on Wednesday. I am only missing a few.
Our MANDATORY Parent Information Meetings for our April Catalina trip are on January 14th and 15th (next Wednesday and Thursday.) Please plan to attend ONE of these valuable meetings if you'd like your student to attend the Catalina trip.
